Service first.
Politics never.
Twenty six years in uniform. A career spent making complicated systems work. A family rooted on the Central Coast.
From the deck plates to the drawing board.
Bob Smith enlisted in the United States Navy and rose to the rank of Commander over more than twenty six years of service, including combat deployments and assignments on advanced weapons systems. He was named the U.S. Navy Engineer of the Year in 2023.
Along the way he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering. Engineers are trained to do something Washington has forgotten how to do: define the problem honestly, test the fix, and own the result.
Today Bob lives in Carpinteria with his wife Adriana and their children. He is a candidate for Congress because the families on this coast deserve a representative who measures success by problems solved, not by headlines earned.

How he judges a candidate, including himself
Two clips from Santa Barbara Forum, the programme Bob hosts, recorded 21 July 2026.
“The only thing that matters to me really is does this person have leadership capability? Are they capable? Are they competent? Do they provide leadership? What does their resume say? What is their record?”
“So I am going in there with an agenda. And my agenda is going to be the things that I am going to get done. And what is not going to be on my agenda is what is best for me politically to be re-elected. What is going to be on my agenda is what is best for the 24th district.”

“I took an oath at eighteen. I never stopped keeping it.”

Five pillars, one standard: does it actually make life better on the Central Coast?
The people who served with him.
Each statement below is the personal testimony of the individual named.
“Bob Smith is, in my professional judgment, a national asset. His intellect, integrity, and leadership capacity distinguish him at the highest levels of responsibility. It is a significant endorsement that a sitting three-star admiral hand-selected Bob to serve on her personal staff, a role she repeated across multiple commands for a decade. I offer my strongest and unequivocal endorsement of his character and capability.”
Captain, U.S. Navy (Retired)
“Male leaders like Bob Smith were vital to transitioning our military into one where women are treated equally and can compete for the same opportunities that were historically reserved for men. The greatest compliment and respect in my life was being treated as a sailor and a warfighter. Bob did this every day.”
Master Chief, U.S. Navy (Retired)
“There are leaders who manage programs, and there are leaders who shape people. Bob did both, and he did so in a way that permanently influenced the trajectory of my career.”
Lieutenant, U.S. Navy (Former)
