Keep Diablo Canyon open, bring a national small modular reactor demonstration home to the Central Coast, and treat water supply as the infrastructure problem it is. Reliable, affordable power is the foundation everything else sits on.
Education
Real careers and real opportunity.
Not every good career starts with a four-year degree. Trades, apprenticeships, and technical training deserve the same standing and the same funding.
What this means for Santa Maria
Santa Maria is the largest city in the county and it does the work that feeds the rest of it. Housing that a working family can actually buy, and training that leads to a real career, matter more here than another speech about them. Not every good career starts with a four-year degree, and the funding should say so.
I did not start with much. My father went to prison, I moved in with my grandmother, and I dropped out of high school to work. The Navy gave me a second chance to earn a diploma, then a degree, then a commission. That ladder is what Santa Maria families are being priced off. Jobs are leaving. Home ownership is out of reach. The cost of living is untenable. I am running to put that ladder back where people can reach it.
