Why I’m Running
The Central Coast should be one of the best places in America to build a life, raise a family, start a business, and retire with dignity. But today, too many middle-class and working-class families are being priced out of the communities they love.
Housing is too expensive. Energy costs are too high. Small businesses are squeezed. Schools and workforce pathways need more support. Our immigration system is broken. Too often, Washington responds with partisanship instead of practical solutions.
The Central Coast does not need another politician whose only job is to cast the expected vote.
Votes matter, but leadership matters more.
Real leadership means identifying the problem, taking responsibility, building support, advancing solutions, and being accountable for the outcome. That is what I have done throughout my life, in uniform, in engineering, and in service to our country.
For too long, the Central Coast has been controlled by a closed political pipeline. The same insiders move from one office, board, commission, or government role to the next, while families across our communities are left wondering why the same problems never seem to be solved.
Public office should not be a career ladder. It should be public service. School boards should be led by parents and community members who care about students, not by politicians seeking their next title. Local government should focus on service, accountability, and results, not on protecting a political machine.
I served our country for more than 26 years in the United States Navy, rising from a junior enlisted sailor to Commander. As a naval officer, combat veteran, and systems engineer, I led sailors through complex missions and helped solve some of our military’s toughest technological challenges.
Service has always defined my life. I am running for Congress to continue that service, not to build a career in politics, but to bring accountability, common sense, and real problem-solving back to government.
My priorities are clear:
- Restore affordability and expand homeownership
- Strengthen education, vocational training, and workforce pathways
- Secure reliable energy and water resources
- Advance responsible immigration reform
- Support veterans, military families, and national defense
- Bring federal resources home to the Central Coast
The challenges we face are not partisan. They are practical. I believe our district deserves a representative who will work across party lines, listen to everyone, and focus on results rather than political theater.
Most importantly, I want to ensure our children and grandchildren can live, work, and raise their families in the communities they call home.
I respectfully ask for your vote.
About Bob
Bob Smith is not a career politician. He is a retired U.S. Navy Commander, combat veteran, systems engineer, husband, father, and Central Coast resident who has spent his life solving complex problems and serving his country.
Bob served more than 26 years in the U.S. Navy, leading sailors on multiple deployments and overseeing the development of some of the Navy’s most advanced weapon systems. He was recognized with the Navy’s Engineer of the Year award in 2023 and holds both a B.S. in General Engineering Technology and an M.S. in Systems Engineering.
Born and raised in a low-income family in the Philadelphia area, Bob understands what opportunity can mean to a family. His life has been shaped by service, hard work, discipline, and a belief that America should remain a place where people can rise through effort, education, and responsibility.
Bob and his wife, Adriana, have lived in Carpinteria for over a decade, raising their family near Adriana’s extended family. He is running for Congress to help restore the American Dream by expanding opportunities for working- and middle-class families across the Central Coast.
Bob is committed to representing everyone in California’s 24th Congressional District, not just one party, ideology, or political machine. His campaign focuses on practical leadership, bipartisan problem-solving, and real results for the communities he serves.
